    It would be hard to go wrong with either the ASA CX-2 Pathfinder or Sporty’s Electronic E6B (which is what I have). I like the Sporty’s calculator, except that it has an irritating habit of turning itself on in the flight bag and running the batteries down because the ON/OFF switch is a button rather than a sliding switch. I don’t know if the ASA caclulator has this same “feature”. If you have a iPad, I also recommend the Sporty’s E6B for that platform, but you won’t be allowed to take an iPad into the exam.

    In my opinion, the ASA calculator is vastly better than the Sporty’s model, and well worth the slight difference in cost.  For starters, it simply feels more substantially built.  The keys have a better tactile feedback when you press them.  The display is easier to read.  And although it’s been a long time since I used the Sporty’s calculator, if memory serves I found I was unable to “back-track” in the middle of a process if I needed to change an entry; I had to start all over again if I entered a wrong input.
    The Sporty’s calculator is lying in my bottom desk drawer.  If you want it, contact me off-line and I’ll send it to you for the cost of postage.

    I love the ASA calculator, also Jeppesen makes one including the forementioned Sporty’s one.
