Stadium TFR – What are Champ Series Races?

Asked by: 3500 views
Airspace, FAA Regulations

The infamous Stadium TFR (9/5151) states, in part, "THIS NOTAM ALSO APPLIES TO NASCAR SPRINT CUP, INDY CAR, AND CHAMP SERIES RACES EXCLUDING QUALIFYING AND PRE-RACE EVENTS."

Googling that phrase comes up with nothing that is a particularly close match. The closest seems to be something known as Champ Car or Champ Car World Series, but that organization went bankrupt in 2008 before the current version of the Stadium TFR was issued.

My question is, what is a Champ Series Race, or, more to the point, how would a pilot determine if a specific event at a race track was a Champ Series Race?

Champ Car Series did go bankrupt but they still race a full schedule. If there is a TFR issued just google the track within its radius and get the schedule.
