More VOR/HSI questions

Asked by: 16037 views Instrument Rating

Going through the IFR written ...  I can fly the instrument stuff in the air but getting through the written seems 10 times more difficult!  Working through the VOR stuff and there's one question that gives me an HSI figure where the needle isn't centered and asks what heading I need to turn to to intercept the course back to the station.  This is the most bass-ackwards question on the test.  In real life, I would just re-center the needle and fly to the station or intercept the heading until the needle moves then turn back ... I wouldn't figure out the exact heading.  Nevertheless, can anyone shed any light on how to answer this irrelevant and useless question?

    Dear Nerissa
I am not sure what question you are referring to. The only thing that comes to mind is the question that deals with figure 95 and asks “what OBS selection would center the needle and change the ambiguity indicator to a TO”. If that is the one, here is a video I made for it

Yes – That’s the one!  Thank you so much!  I had viewed your VOR video on another thread and it simplified those questions but I was still struggling with this figure 95 one but your explanation was fantastic.  Thanks again for helping me understand this.
