I have a student who is about ready to get his Private Pilots license.  He has expressed an interest in going to Austraillia and flying scuba divers down there.

If he were to get his Commercial Pilots License, would he be able to use the FAA Commercial Pilots license in Australia?  Or would he have to go do the JAA Course that some schools offer here in the USA.

It depends.  If he will be flying a US registered aircraft, he can use his US pilot’s certificate (unless Oz has a regulation to the contrary, which I doubt).

If the aircraft is not US registered, check the Australian regs to see what is allowed.
