I WAS TOLD THAT THE QUESTIONS ON THE FAA PRIVATE PILOT KNOWLEDGE TEST ARE PUBLIC.  IT ALSO STATES IN MY GLEIM BOOK THAT THEY TAKE THE SAMPLE QUESTIONS DIRECTLY FROM THE FAA QUESTION BANK.  HOW OFTEN DOES THE QUESTION BANK CHANGE?  I DOWNLOADED A PDF FROM THE FAA OF QUESTIONS THAT LOOKS TO BE UPDATED AS OF 6/2011.  THERE ARE SOME QUESTIONS IN THE GLEIM BOOK THAT AREN'T IN THE NEW FAA PDF.  IS GLEIM THROWING IN QUESTIONS FOR LEARNING SAKE OR DOES THE FAA CHANGE THE QUESTION BANK?

In the past, the FAA has updated the questions in the June timeframe. For some reason, they updated the questions in January and again in June but the questions remained the same for the Private Pilot. According to my records, the previous update was in 2009. Since then, lots of questions were dropped and none were added. Some of the deletions make sense, e.g. exact duplicates of questions, but there is a whole block of questions that are good questions but no longer in the test bank.
It’s quite likely that your book is just a bit out of date.

The FAA has recently made a large amount of changes to their question banks and has not published them, in the effort to stop people from memorizing Q and A.
To study for the written there are programs like our software that do not teach you mindless memorization but instead teach you the material itself through time tested techniques. I have been personally teaching written exam classes for over 10 years and here is the result of my experience:
