How to add IGI to AGI?

Asked by: 7546 views Flight Instructor

I have an AGI certificate. I just passed the IGI test a week ago.

What do I need to do next?

Do I have to do another Form 8710?  Visit the FSDO again?

The school where I took it said that I don't have to do anything, just wait.  However, I'd like a 2nd opinion on that one!

Thanks in advance.

I believe you do need an 8710 and somebody to issue you a certificate (normally the FSDO, but if you had friendly DE I assume they could do it).

Your “school” has a touching faith in the ability of the FAA to talk to itself, but I think that faith is misplaced.

Matthew is correct!  You will need to fill out another 8710 and take it into the FSDO for the rating to be applied to your ground instructor certificate.

I doubt a DPE could issue such a certificate.  They are limited to the types of certificates they are allowed to issue.  Some DPE can only issue private pilot certificates, some private and commercial only, other can only issue ATP, commercial, private and instrument but not a CFI certificate.  Not only that, but since I am talking about DPE privileges, each multi engine airplane type has to be specifically approved for them to be able to examine in it.

As far as I know, a DPE can’t issue and AGI or IGI certificate. I asked this same question of my DPE during my initial CFI checkride He wasn’t sure if he could, so he called the local FSDO, and they said he couldn’t. Quite annoying, if you ask me.
