Instrument currency using ATD.

Asked by: 1518 views FAA Regulations, Instrument Rating

Hello, I wonder if we can use ATD alone in this scenario.

I am a instrument rated pilot. I have 2 instrument approaches in May, another 2 approaches along with holdings, interception, and tracking in July. I was current until November. As of December, I'm not current and I need to perform 4 approaches more. I know I can do this in aircraft with safety pilot. But can I also use ATD and get the currency back? If that so, can I do it alone or should I have an instructor attended?

Thank you :)

Recency, 6 in 6 months or 6 in the following 6 months, may be completed in an AATD.

An instructor is not required to sign off the approaches or be present.

The AATD needs to be approved.

An IPC cannot be completed in an AATD, but some elements can be conducted.
