How can I connect to other time builders for sharing flights?

Asked by: 1389 views General Aviation

Hello folks

Is there any website/forum that has plenty of time builders looking to connect to each other for sharing flights?

In my particular case, I'd be looking for an IR pilot to serve as PIC and safety pilot while I build my XC simulated IFR time.

Thanks!

The best way I’ve seen is simply through Facebook groups. Many local aviators have set up groups, for instance I am a member of “Central Oklahoma Aviators” and “North Texas Aviators”. People are always posting your type of request.

So, search on there to see if there is one for your area.

If you’re not on FB, this might be enough reason to just create a very basic account with minimal information. If you still don’t want to open a FB account, then there may or may not be similar groups on the other social media platforms.

Alternately, join one of the many online discussion forums such as forums.aopa.org, pilotsofamerica.com, purpleboard.net and others, and see if there are regional sub-forums there to ask about safety pilots.

Of course, the tried and true method of posting a message on the wall at the local FBO can still work too.

    Good luck!

You don’t need an instrument rated pilot to act as safety pilot. Anyone rated in the category and class will do. What a lot of students do is find someone else at the school who is also working on their IFR rating and fly with them.

I learned an awful lot watching for traffic when IFR rated pilots were getting current. And I learned even more watching student pilots struggle with the same things I was struggling with.

I think Russ had a good idea, hang around the local flight schools and just ask around.
