Asked by: 1979 views , ,
FAA Regulations, Flight Instructor

I busted my CFI ride apx 6 years ago, I was talking to one of my friends about going back to CFI school and finishing it now that i have the money. While we were talking about it we couldn't come to a conclusion to if i needed to retake my written or not as i had already attempted the ride before in the past.

Do i need to retake my FOI and FIA?

I’m just giving you this answer from memory, but as I recall, there are only rare exceptions for any knowledge test (written test) to be usable 24 months after the date it was taken. The exception I remember was if you were military and deployed overseas that the valid period would be extended by the duration of the deployment or something along that line.

So, the bottom line to your question is yes, you’ll have to do the whole shooting match again.

I’ll also toss in this piece of unsolicited advice. If you bust the check again. Go back for the retest. A retest is far less stressful than the full original test.
