Can a 162 skycatcher do hood time ?

Asked by: 1645 views FAA Regulations, General Aviation, Light Sport Aircraft, Private Pilot, Student Pilot

Hi all.. My question is can the skycatcher perform all neccnecen requirements to obtain a private pilot? I know it's certified for night time flight but it's not certified IFR, so when it comes time for my simulated with hood 3 hours, would I need to switch to a 172 or something equivalent?

An aircraft does not need to be certified for IFR to be used for the three hours of training “on the control and maneuvering of an airplane solely by reference to instruments.” Among other things, (1) those three hours are not considered “instrument training” and (2) there is no requirement they be done under instrument flight rules.

(#2 also applies to most instrument training, but that’s beyond the question)
