Simulator Usage for Commercial Single Engine Certificate

Asked by: 1851 views Commercial Pilot, Flight Instructor

A student asked if 14 hours of simulator time can be used for the commercial certificate. This will be under part 61 and I simply can not find how much timeĀ  can be attributed to simulator usage for his 250 hours to qualify.

Thanks

You just didn’t read far enough. 61.129(i) specifically addresses simulators and FTDs. However, most schools are using AATDs, which are not specifically addressed in the reg. I would suggest that you look at the authorization letter, which should be located near the device. All current letters have a 60 month validity period and should specify the purposes fo which it may be utilized.

Also, there is a legal interpretation stating that if the device is configured as a multi-engine airplane, the time may not be used to satisfy single engine requirements. I need to leave shortly, but if you need the interpretation, i will dig it up later.
