ICAO ATP to FAA ATP.

Asked by: 2353 views FAA Regulations

Dear Sirs. I have the Venezuelan license of an airline transport pilot (ICAO), currently flying an A340 / 300 Aibus from AVIOR AIRLINES in Venezuela. I have 16000 flight hours and 49 years of age. I wish someone would explain to me in a simple way, the steps to take to obtain my FAA Airline Transport Pilot License. Can I do the ground school online (King Schools)? I wish to have the FAA license with the A340's authorization to work in China. I appreciate if you can guide me. Thank you so much.

    1. You will need a visa (most likely the M-1) to enter the U.S. for the purposes of undergoing flight training.

    2. You will need to get your Venezuelan ATP license verified by the FAA so it can be used as a basis for qualifying for the FAA ATP without first having to have a FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate.

    3. You will need to undergo a FAA approved Airline Transport Pilot Certification Training Program (ATP CTP) before you will be allowed to take the ATP Multi-Engine written test.

    4. Pass the FAA ATP Multi-Engine written test.

    5. Complete an A340 Type Rating course with a flight training organization that can issue an A340 Type Rating AND ATP Certificate. You would need to contact flight training organizations that offer A340 Type Ratings to see if any of their examiners hold the authority to issue ATP Certificates.

    6. Pass the ATP Practical Test concurrently with the A340 Type Rating.
