IFR directional indicator (DG)

For IFR equipment does a 430W satisfy IFR requirements for directional indicator?
I'm hoping to replace my wandering DG with the Garmin G5, but it is not primary for directional indicator (DG)

I know I can replace my AI with the G5, but I prefer to keep it and replace the vacuum DG.

    The question you have to ask yourself is “Does the 430W show which way the aircraft is pointed?”

    That is different than the direction that the aircraft is tracking, unless you find yourself in a no wind situation.

    McConnell – how would you plan to comply with an ATC instruction to “Fly heading 180”, using only a 430?

    No, a 430 is not sufficient. 91.205 requires a “gyroscopic direction indicator”. I’m fairly certain the 430 does not have a gyroscope, electronic or mechanical, in it.
