Adding a Category & Class to Instructor Ticket

Asked by: 2640 views Flight Instructor

So a friend has his Commercial ticket with ASEL, AMEL, and Powered Lift. Instrument rated.

He also has his CFI with Powered Lift and Instrument Rating.

He would like to add ASEL and MEI, but the Additional Rating Task Table on page 21 of the CFI PTS doesn't have a column for Powered Lift.

How is he (or the DPE, for that matter) supposed to know what areas of operation he is supposed to be evaluated on in the practical exam?

The base answer might be that the practical might need to be over every Area of Operation, but that can't doesn't really seem right.

There are no Standard Category Powered Lift aircraft. His CFI was issued based upon his military qualifications.

The answer would have to come from one of the divisions of AFS-600 in Oklahoma City, as they write the PTS.

As a practical matter, I would guess that the answer would be to look at the columns for Glider or Helicopter and use the designated tasks. He would be moving from one Category to another.
