Requirements for a Commercial HEL CFII to add-on PPL ASEL?

Asked by: 2967 views FAA Regulations, Helicopter, Private Pilot

I have a student who holds a Commercial/Instruments and CFII Helicopter licenses who wants to add-on a PPL ASEL.

Does anyone know what tasks will be tested on the checkride?

I am asking, because I am teaching him in his C-150 that has only a Garmin 396 for navigation. It has no installed navigation equipment. It has a single Com and Transponder and standard steam gages. I wonder if his plane can be used for the checkride?

Thanks,

Russ, CFII ASEL

If you look at page A-12 in the new Airman Certification Standard, you will find the same kind of table that existed in the old PTS. This table shows which tasks need to be accomplished for addition of an Airplane Single Engine Land rating to an existing certificate.

You will see that the applicant will not be tested on Area of Operation VI, which deals with navigation.

The new ACS is the testing document now in use for Private Airplane certification.

    Kris,

Thanks for the point out. I had downloaded the new ACS but had not read it all the way through. They moved that table to the back and I missed it.

    Thanks,

    Russ
