CFII and MEI currently and wants to add on the CFI

Asked by: 7800 views Flight Instructor

I have a couple of clients that have received their CFII and MEI through military competency through the FSDO. Now they want their CFI as a add-on. What should they expect on their test or exam. Mine as I recall was 2 hours on FOI and 5 hours on  CFI stuff.

Anybody have experience with this combination of CFI credentials.

You should take a look at the task table in the front of the PTS for Flight Instructor that deals with add-on ratings. It will outline the tasks that must be tested. FOI will not be one of them.

However, that does not mean that those fundamentals can be ignored.

The candidate should still have lesson plans for the maneuvers he will be teaching and should employ the precepts of FOI when teaching, both for the practical and in real life.

Also, since it is an add-on rating, it can be done with a properly qualified DPE.
Since the applicant already has a multi-engine CFI and has demonstrated the operation of a complex airplane, the add-on test can be accomplished in a fixed gear single engine airplane.
