Examiner for add on instructor rating

Asked by: 3321 views Flight Instructor

Planning on adding on the CFII to my initial certificate, and I'm wondering if I can take the practical with any regular DPE or if it has to be a FSDO inspector, like the CFI initial test?

It does not have to be a FSDO inspector, however it cannot be just any DPE. DPEs have “ratings” like pilots do, based on experience and other factors. So not all DPEs can do CFI checkrides.

Search for “Flight Instructor Examiners (FIE)” in the drop down menu to locate one (or call your favorite and ask).
