Instrument rating help!

Asked by: 2323 views Instrument Rating

Hi, fellow aviators. I'm looking to make aviation my career, but the one thing that is preventing me from making that dream come true is the damn instrument written test. I just failed it a second time today... I am currently using the ASA study guides and test preps, which helped me greatly with the Private and Commercial ratings. My father is a career pilot, and everyone I've talked to agrees that this is the toughest test of the main three. One possible handicap is that I am not flying; my father is bankrolling my career, God bless him, but his condition is that I don't fly until I got the Commercial and Instrument ratings done. Is this wise? Essentially my question is how do I pass the instrument written?!

While passing the test is a goal, the main goal should be to learn the material.

You need to identify the areas in which you are strong and the areas in which you are weak. The test score contains codes that you can use to find the weak areas. These are the areas you need to focus on.

I would hope that your father would be willing to tutor you on the weak areas. Since he is a career pilot, he should have a good understanding of all the material covered on the instrument written.
