SOP for assisting students afraid of getting near the ground (while setting up the landing)

I'd like to ask specifically about current common practices in use to spot and then enable a student to work through becoming fearful when nearing the ground while learning to land and practicing landing. According to a local FBO, industry standard in such a case is to simply force the student to land repeatedly until he stops being afraid. During these repeated landings, the CFI gives no or minimal direction (eg Keep it lined up and just land), no or very minimal postflight debriefing (eg You did ok), and does not physically intervene unless the incipient landing will be more than just a very hard impact/very hard impact with single low bounce. I learned to fly some time back, but it's hard to believe training has changed that much.
