Medical Certificate – Downgrade

Asked by: 4826 views FAA Regulations

I received my First Class Medical in March 25, 2014. For age 40 and above I was able to use my privilege as ATP PIC for six month only. After six month this Medical Certificate has been downgrade to Second Class medical for one year.
Now, what happened to my Medical Certificate after one year downgrade to second class? There is any further more downgrade to third class? Reading FAR 61.23 I could not find the answer. Does anybody know where I can find the reference for downgrade Medical Certificate?

Thank you very much!!!

There is a table in 61.23(d) which describes the duration of certificates.

You medical certificate does not downgrade.

The table shows that if you are over 40, your First Class medical is good for First Class purposes for 6 months after the date of issue. It is good for Second Class purposes for 1 year after the date of issue. It is good for 2 years for Third Class purposes for 2 years after the date of issue.
