Paper copies of Airman & Medical certificates.

FAA Regulations

Is it legal to carry copies of my license and medical onboard my aircraft in case I forget my actual license and medical at home? FAR 61.3 leads me to believe that my actual certificates are required, and copies are not. Thanks in advance!

You’re correct in thinking the actual certificate is required. To my knowledge it is not illegal to *make* a photocopy of your certificates, but those copies have NO legal significance — they are not official documents.
