Use of PAPI or VASI glide slope for landing small single engine aircraft

A continuing debate with my CFI concerns staying on the indicated glide slope of the PAPI (or VASI) visual slope indicators. Most airports have these glide slopes set for between 3 degrees and 4 degrees.
A small single engine aircraft (Cessna 172SP) has best L/D glide angle of 10:1 (some say 9:1) which equals an angle of 5.7 degrees. If that aircraft stays at that 3 – 4 degree slope using the PAPI and loses an engine, the aircraft will not make the runway.
I maintain it is careless and dangerous to do the type of landings I see all the other CFIs doing with students – on PAPI or VASI glide slopes where an engine failure will result in a crash.
If the examiner wants to see a PAPI glide slope landing once- fine - but if the examiner is not capable of seeing my stable and consistent reduction in speed, altitude and a set & constant glide slope angle on final well above that PAPI glide slope he should not be an examiner.
