Turboprop Flight Time

Asked by: 3681 views General Aviation, Private Pilot, Student Pilot

I have about 70 hours flying the T-6B in Navy flight school and was curious if it would still be possible to get more flight time in a turboprop on the civilian side based on the hours I have. Right now I'm doing helicopter training but I really would like to get back into fixed wing flying again.

Sure, it’s always possible; Anything is possible if you have deep enough pockets…

But in all seriousness, are you talking about a job in a turboprop or renting one? Finding one to rent is gonna be difficult. A job, however, is not too difficult. I got a 135 job in a CE208B Caravan with no previous turboprop time. I know of several 91/135 ops with turboprops that would be pretty easy to get into. If you’re looking for an ME turboprop such as the 1900 or a King Air, that’s gonna be a bit more difficult, as even for an FO spot, they wanna see a good bit of PIC turboprop time on the books.
