CFI instruction

Asked by: 3037 views Flight Instructor

I just got my CFI reinstated after letting it lapse almost 10 years ago. I instructed for 7 years full time at the beginning of my aviation career and have an opportunity to take on a CFI candidate now that I am a CFI again. Do I need to have the 2 years experience after my reinstatement or does the previous years count allowing me to train and sign him off for a CFI check ride?

The requirements are spelled out in 61.195(h).

It would appear that you held a flight instructor certificate for at least 2 years. You would also need to show 200 hours of flight training given. Since you instructed for 7 years full time, one would think that you meet that requirement as well.

The intent appears to be preventing someone from training a potential CFI who has never had real experience as a flight instructor.

Thanks Kris, exactly how I interpreted it but thought I’d throw it out there.
