CFI Employment

Asked by: 4547 views Flight Instructor

Looking for a CFI job and willing to relocate.  Talked to ATP ... any input from other CFIs who work/have worked for them?  Are you an employee or a contractor if you work for them?

I thought ATP took almost all it’s flight instructors from the ranks of those doing the Professional Pilot program? If they are taking external candidates then that tells me there must be a horrific instructor shortage (because their Professional Pilots must be walking into other jobs) and you should be able to walk into most airports in the country and get a CFI job.

My other advice would be to think about what you want from a CFI job (your priorities). Do you want hours, multi-hours, advanced instruction hours (i.e. not primary student), segue into Part 135 work etc? I think you might want to figure those things out, beause then you can find the right job. I’d be willing to bet you can pick most places in the country and get a CFI job – but what KIND of CFI job, now there’s the question.

Flightsafety Academy in Vero Beach, FL is hiring now. Pretty good benefits, lots of multi time possible and even a lot of work on the JAA side. Advancment to one of the sim centers and free type ratings also possible.
