    It is the same test as the initial instrument as far as I could tell. Although I got a lower score on my II because I didn’t even study or brush up at all just went and took it.

    It certainly used to be the same question bank – the only caveat when I was doing my CFI-I training is that the CFI-I instrument written may contain some questions from helicopters etc. At that time the advice was to just guess at those questions and keep trucking.
     
    I assume it’s the same these days, but I know the FAA has been “improving” the knowledge test experience, sometimes improving by going backwards…….

    The CFII test is made harder because it has less questions. The question pool is the same however. I took my initial instrument knowledge test and the CFII back to back. This is smart because the information is still fresh if you’ve been studying for the instrument, And as long as you apply for the CFII practical test within two years from the date you passed your written, it would still be valid. After two years the test result becomes invalid and even if you previously passed you would have to retest to be eligible to take the practical.

    My IR is still valid, so do i need to retake it for CFII??
