CFI to CFII study program

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a good study program to get me from 'not current' to an instrument instructor.  My time is limited (working a lot to get money to fly), but I want to progress my flying career.  I'm an audio/visual learner more than purely reading volumes of books.  AOPA's safety courses is a good place to start.  Any other suggestions?

    You have a CFI and you want to add on a CFI-I?
     
    Get current. Read the “Instrument Flying Handbook” cover to cover and understand it. Schedule an exam.
     
    The CFI-I is easy – you already know how to instruct, you already know how to fly instruments, you just have to do them together.

    I should start with saying that I haven’t made this transition, yet, but the advice I’ve received in the past was similar to Matthew’s above: get current. However, I’d add two comments: 1) get VERY proficient (which, after getting “current” again for the first time in about a decade, is VERY different from being proficient!), and 2) get proficient from the right seat. After that, it’s just talking and flying (or so I hear).

    Read the Instrument Flying Handbook is pretty much all you can do other then go out and buy the kings videos for IFR flying.
     
    What i did while working as a CFI on my down time i would read the handbook and take notes and just shoot the bull with the other guys who already had the CFII or CFI’s who were also working on the II. By asking them questions i was able to remember it easier, something like how you were looking to do it.
