Asked by: 1361 views Flight Instructor, Helicopter

Good morning all! I am a new CFI and am working on building out my resume. I have done some Google searches, but am wondering if anyone has any good resources, templates, etc. to make this the best resume ever!

Thanks!

    Hi Chris,

I wish I could help you, but it has been a long time since I built a resume. I just wanted to let you know that almost nobody visits this site, so don’t feel slighted if you don’t get a response.

I know it seems like a long way off now but just stick this in the back of your head. When you get 1,500 hours of flight time, look seriously at becoming an Aviation Safety Inspector for the FAA. Right now, you have all of the qualifications except the 1,500 flight hours.

A lot of people look at the job and don’t apply or accept because the pay looks low, and it is. But that quickly changes. Civil service is a strange system where the starting pay is lower than it should be and the later pay is quite generous. It’s also one of the few jobs nowadays that has a retirement system.

It’s one of the very few jobs where you don’t have to “pay your dues” by flying questionable aircraft in weather you shouldn’t be flying in.

Good luck with your new helicopter CFI. It’s a tough job.
