Instrument rating check ride counting as flight review?

I took my private check ride in July 2022, I took my instrument check ride in November 2022. For my instrument check ride to count as a flight review did I need to have DPE sign off an endorsement in the back of my logbook? Or does simply the record of a check ride and date of my instrument rating issuance count?

    61.56(c) is the requirement for a flight review every 24 months, right? It begins, “except as provided in paragraphs (d), (e), and (g) of this section…”

    61.56(d)(1) says that if you have passed “a practical test conducted by an examiner…for a pilot certificate, rating, or operating privilege.”

    By virtue of that regulation, all PASSED checkrides reset your 24 month clock for a flight review.

    And in case you’re curious, paragraph (e) talks about completion of the WINGS proficiency program and (f) talks about an instructor renewing their certificate. Both of those would also reset the 24 month clock on a flight review.

    No, the DPE doesn’t have to actually put anything in your logbook. Some will sign the flight entry, but that’s more for a memento than anything else. They will not sign a FR endorsement. None of this has any bearing on your FR date resetting. The existence of a passed checkride is all that matters for that purpose.

    An interesting difference between a checkride and a flight review is that a checkride requires performance of the maneuvers in the ACS while a flight review requires performance of the maneuvers personally selected by the instructor. The checkride may not include the maneuvers the DPE would personally select for a flight review, such as a power-off landing. But fortunately, passing the checkride resets the clock for the flight review.
