The way that I’ve always flown the ILS was by intercepting the glide slope at glideslope intercept altitude (the lightning bolt). But I always here flight instructors say that you should intercept the glideslope further out. It would be better to fly it like that because you stay in the same configuration and there are less steps. But aren’t you at risk of capturing a false glideslope? Also, the AIM says that the glideslope is only considered reliable 10nm out. Do the airlines intercept the glide slope further out or do they follow the step down fixed and intercept it at glideslope intercept altitude?
