Hi. I'm trying to find out the best way to quickly knock out my CFI, and am asking your opinion. I'm 50 yrs old, been flying for 5yrs & own a C182P. ASEL, Inst, Commercial. 560hrs. Flown Idaho back country and commute from LVK to MEV over Lake Tahoe every week or two. I live near LVK for 3 days a week and near Carson, NV the others. Commuting every week. I own a computer networking company, worked as a CPA, self taught in several other trades. Plenty "quick" enough. I earned my ASEL at LVK / Ahart in my friend's decked out C172-XP (210hp / Garmin). I've passed the two CFI written tests and earned the AGI as well. /So far, I've looked at two options & need to find others. 1) Train in Carson with CFI Bill in my C182. Find a C182-Retract to take the exam in. Use a DPE from Reno. This would be the cheapest & I could train in the plane that I'm used to. But, finding a C182 retract would be hard. Also, Bill may be a great primary instructor, but he just "wings it" as he is sooo experienced. I'd prefer a large school with a defined curricula. 2) ATP. Cheap & defined curricula. But, requires to do CFI-ME and CFII at the same time. I don't have multi. So, not so cheap. Also, I don't think I should do CFII at the same time. An over-load? I "bought" my Comm & Inst ratings. But, I want to get some quality instruction for this CFI. I'm thinking an ATP type accelerated program would be best, but maybe not ATP. I'd rather skip the cost of the Multi and the workload of the CFII. Adding those in a year seems to make more sense. Looking for some experienced opinions as well as suggestions of alternative schools in AZ or FL or Las Vegas.
