Minimum Vectoring Altitude

I recently viewed a VLOG of someone's flight. At one point they asked a controller what the MVA was for a certain area. In the context of their flight I didn't understand why it was a useful question. So, just generally speaking, might someone be able to provide an example as to what circumstances would it be useful to query about an MVA?

    If you want to get lower. Really, that simple. There could be many reasons. Perhaps your destination is an airport without an instrument approach and you want to know whether ATC can get you low enough to get you into VFR conditions.
