Final Approach ATC communication.

Hello All, 

Upon final approach to land on runway 24 ATC tells make make a boxed final approach ( if I remember correctly) I’ve haven’t heard ATC say that beforehand and I just wanted some clarification. Shortly after he told me to disregard and I was cleared to land on 24. Thanks.

    You were already on final and they asked you to make a “boxed” approach? No idea what that means and I have never heard it in many years of flying. I would have asked for clarification.

    Now, a similar thing that you do hear from time to time is “square your turn to final”, but this would have to be said while you are on base. It just means don’t make a long, curving turn to final but make it more “square” to give you just a bit more room between the previous landing traffic. But once you’re on final all you can really do is S-turns. Or go around!

    That makes two of us who don’t have a clue.

    Now, if he was asking for a “botched” final approach, I’ve done plenty of those. I just never had a controller ask for one.
