If I haven’t flown for 90 days can I still fly with out taking passengers or do I need to fly with a CFI to become current? So if I can fly without flying with CFI can I just make 3 takeoffs and landings to take passengers?

    61.57 requires that you have made 3 takeoffs and landings in the preceding 90 days in order to carry passengers. It does not require that this be done with an instructor. Yes, this means that if you take no passengers, you may still continue to fly solo beyond the 90 day limit for carrying passengers.

    Now, if you are renting an airplane, the FBO may have a requirement for you to go do this with an instructor.

    Also, if you are relatively inexperienced and feel that you might benefit from having an instructor on board, feel free to avail yourself of that option.

    Though your 61.56 flight review must be current for you to be able to fly solo to get that currency…
