CX-2 Pathfinder vs. Sporty’s Flight Computer?

My CX-2 Pathfinder (electronic E6B) recently got smashed.  I was about to purchase a new one.  However, I have just discovered that Sporty's newest electrionic flight computer includes new functions such as top of descent, required rate of descent (as well as some other new functions).

Does anyone have a recommendation on which flight computer to purchase?  Should I stick with the CX-2...or is Sporty's flight computer better?

    I don’t have specific opinions about those two models, but another option you might want to consider if you have an iPhone or other smartphone is an app on your phone. For my E6B needs, I use either the non-electronic E6B or the E6B Pro app on my iPhone. At $2.99 on the app store, it’ll save you a significant amount of money over buying a purpose-built device.

    That I’m not sure of. I would guess the answer is “no” (due to the myriad of other functions available, such as looking up answers on the web!) but you should check with a testing center to get a definitive answer.
     
    In my opinion, though, student pilots should learn how to use the manual E6B, as it gives a visual representation of how things are affected by changes, especially on the wind problems, and it can be a lot faster for doing repetitive calculations. Plus, you can use it on written tests and save the $$ for spending on actual flying. 🙂

    The CX-2 can be used for testing since it has a memory that can be cleared and can not store other forms of data.  I have not seen Sporty’s version so I can not say with certainty that it can be used at a testing center. I do know for a fact that your I-Phone is definetly not allowed for reasons that Kent mentioned.  I am also searching for another version of the CX-2 or an equal competitor although mine is still working, my only complaint with it is that you can not see it in the dark.  I want to find an illuminated model that will do everything the CX-2 will do.   MM CFI  🙂
