Consequences of not passing an Add On Rating

Commercial Pilot, FAA Regulations

If you have a commercial SEL and commercial MEL and you do an add-on oral/practical for a commercial SES and do NOT pass the exam for the SES, does that deprecate or compromise your SEL or MEL in anyway?  I.e., would you have to re-take the SEL or MEL practical or both?

    If you fail a practical test for an add-on rating, you don’t get the new privileges you were seeking. You don’t lose any privileges.

    Having said that, if you are taking the test with an FAA inspector and he sees something that would make him question your qualifications/abilities concerning the ratings you already hold, he may reexamine you for those ratings under USC 44709.
