Will I be tested on the use of the GPS in my rented airplane for the “CFI Reinstatement Flight Review?”

If a GPS is installed in a rented Flight Review aircraft, and it is operational, will the DPE require the pilot applicant to be proficient with it's use?

FYI: It has operational dual VOR's installed.

    Gary,

    First, it is not a Flight Review. To reinstate an expired Flight Instructor certificate, you take a Practical Test per 61.199.

    Next, I would say it depends on the Practical Test which you plan to take to reinstate. You can reinstate by taking a practical test for any rating which you hold or a practical test for an additional rating.

    I you have an Instrument Airplane rating on your instructor certificate, you could take the CFI Instrument practical test. In that instance, I would say you would definitely need to be familiar with the operation of the GPS.

    If you decide to take the Flight Instructor Airplane practical test, I would say it is up to the DPE conducting the test. There are those who believe that an applicant should be familiar with and be able to operate any equipment installed in the aircraft (I am among those). Others may be of a different opinion. Ask the DPE. Better to know beforehand, than to try and guess what will happen.

    GPS technology is here to stay. Even if you do not need to operate it for your reinstatement, I would make the effort to become familiar with its operation.

    In 91.126/127, control towers are discussed. I am curious to know if anyone has ever run across a list of these airports? This is rather an academic question but since they seem to be so rare, I curious. Thanks ahead.
