Ground instructor- how to get the certificate?

Ok, just passend my FOI and ground instructor knowledge test. Can anyone tell how to get the certificate now? Can I file an IACRA and let my DPE forward the paperwork to the FAA or do I have to make an appointment with the FSDO?

    Check with your DPE. He may be authorized to issue a Ground Instructor certificate (although he may charge you for this).

    Alternatively, take your test scores to the FSDO. They will issue the Ground Instructor certificate for no charge.

    Also, be aware that once you have the certificate, you need to meet the recency of experience requirements in 61.217. It appears that you do not already hold a Flight Instructor certificate, so you will need to comply with 61.217(d).

    I just went through this a few weeks ago. I went through the local FSDO. You do have to complete the IACRA as you are applying for a new certificate, but you do not need anyone to sign off on it nor do you need to complete the aeronautical experience portion.

    Call the FSDO to make an appointment with them and take the original score reports with you and that’s it.

    The FSDO guy was very helpful and walked me through the process.
