Why do we enter on the downwind on all ground reference maneuvers.?

    That’s a great question. The primary reason is that the maneuver calls for the steepest/maximum bank to be the first one.

    Now, visualize the maneuver. Consider what would happen if you entered turns around a point upwind, did that initial 45° bank and then turned downwind.
