High Manifold Pressure

I fly a Cessna 182RG Turbo prop and I had the oil changed just before I flew today and now the MP seems way high after I takeoff into climb. It never before went past the red line to 29 and at the max was 2500. Meanwhile, the MP was so high that I kept slowly pulling out the knob to try to get it down. I wouldn't get too close to 25 with the knob out 3 inches. After landing it seemed normal again.. Also suddenly after starting the rpm at idle seems higher than normal as well. It was at idle less than10 around 8. But now on full pullout of the throttle it is at 10 or higher.

    Sounds like something you should discuss with your mechanic. I can’t tell from your post whether you are talking about a turboprop or a turbocharged engine or a problem regarding over boost of manifold pressure or prop RPM.

    Are you talking about RPM or MP?

    In a turbocharged engine there is a wastegate and that could be not dumping off excess exhaust flow, so if the RPM was set to 2500 not 2400 (off the top of my I am sure its 2400) so the extra 100RPM will be making the turbocharger produce more MP unless the wastegate is linkage is not set right also. I think the T182 is a manual wastegate based on the throttle so most likely another 100 is the difference.

    The next question is why are you wanting to pull back to 25″? Unless yours is something different I expect they are all flat rated up to 32″ and 2400 RPM continuous.

    Seems you need to check some things. But the good thing is you will not have hurt anything. They are hard to kill the trusty Lyc 540’s.
