Can an Italian citizen with a US FAA license apply for jobs in the US with no restrictions?

Hi,

My nephew is an Italian citizen currently training for his CPL/IR in Florida US.

Once he obtains his FAA license, can he apply for jobs in the US without restrictions or are there additional bureaucratic procedures given that he isn't a US citizen?

    Ciao Tommaso,

    i’m Italian citizen with FAA licenses.
    I can tell, unfortunately, that 99.99999% of jobs in US require American citizenship. Your nephew either has to look for jobs where a lot of pilots are needed and FAA licenses accepted (Asia, Africa…) or convert his CPL/IR in ATPLf EASA (European licenses, good luck with that process: 14 knowledge exams, 2 checkrides, tons of money).

    Tommaso,

    The U.S. Postal Service requires that anyone who transports U.S. Mail must be a U.S. citizen. Most, if not all passenger airlines in the U.S. transport mail in their aircraft with FedEx and UPS doing most of it. Therefore, it would be very hard to get an airline job without citizenship.

    Wow, didn’t expect it to be so difficult. I checked the recruitment pages of a few major US airlines and – on paper – some do accept applications from EU citizen. I believe that in reality this is not case.

    Perhaps my nephew will have better chances in South America, Middle East or South East Asia.
