Retesting after failure, is a new set of original endorsements needed as well?

FAA Regulations, Flight Instructor

I understand that if a student fails a written or a checkride, they would need to receive the 61.49 "Retesting After Failure" endorsement.

However, do they also need a new set of the original endorsements (61.35 for writtens / 61.43 for checkride/practical test + flight proficiency endorsement) OR is the original set of endorsements that they receive the first time good enough?

Unless something invalidated the original endorsements or they expire (instruction within the last two months, 24 months on test results, etc.), the prior set of endorsements is sufficient. If I’m the original instructor and the retest is on the front end of the 60 day window, the retest after failure endorsement is fine. If I’m not the original instructor or if it’s closer to the end of the 60 day window, I’ll look a lot closer to make sure everything is in order.

Outside the 60 day window does not necessarily mean all new endorsements. But you would have to review AC 61-65 closely to make sure all of the proper endorsements are present and unexpired.
