Hi my husband was charged with a misdemeanor DV case and now they want him to send in paperwork to FAA for his medical to get cleared.  Will he lose his license? 😕

Mark will do a much better job of answering the question, but here is my short answer. He won’t lose his pilot certificate (license), but he may lose his medical certificate, depending on the details that are not included in your question.

There is no way to answer your question based on the information given. How serious? How minor? Aggravating factors? (And, no, don’t post them!) Depending on the specifics of the charge, sometimes a consultation between the defense lawyer and an aviation lawyer can be helpful too.

But I can say with confidence that the FAA requesting information about an existing medical should at least act as a trigger to find a senior AME for a consultation on the information which will likely be required and the most effective way to collect and present it.
