UAS Applicant – Sign off

Asked by: 5807 views , , ,

Does anyone have experience with signing off a UAS applicant?  I have a student with his PPL asking that I sign his 8710 form for his Remote Pilots Certificate. From what I understand, its basically the CFI signing off that he has verified the applicant's Identification and verified that the student has completed the necessary requirements.

Is there any liability on the CFI end? Can someone help explain the process?

You have it right. For an existing pilot, you’re just verifying they completed the online course, and verifying identity. That’s it.

As for the process within IACRA, there’s really nothing to explain, it’s pretty simple and clear once you get in it. As long as you’ve signed someone off for a check ride, you will be familiar enough with IACRA and have no problems, You do have to be together when you do the sign off, though, as in physically at the same computer, as it will ask for both of your usernames and passwords.

It sounds like you’ve done this already Russ. I’m just curious, if a CFI does the sign off will the applicant get a temporary certificate from IACRA or would that only be if a DPE or the FAA did the sign off?

My temporary was available in IACRA in 2 days after another CFI verified my paperwork
