Airline Pilot wants to reinstate CFI

Asked by: 4093 views Flight Instructor

I am a Part 121 airline pilot and am interested in reinstating my CFI.  What is the most efficient way of doing this?  Could a FAA inspector reinstate it if I am a line checkairman?

You have to take an instructor practical test to re-instate an expired instructor certificate.

I have seen people “renew” their instructor certificate by getting an inspector conducting a line check sign an 8710 – but no such option exists if you have let your instructor certificate expire.

I recently was in exactly the same position, part 121 captain but no longer a check airman. I took the CFI-I airplane written and then found a program which fit my schedule. CFI-C.A.R.E. offers a reinstatement program which they claim, if you are prepared, to reinstate your CFIs in two days. I showed on Monday and left Tuesday evening with all of my CFIs. Disclosure; I do not work for or with them, just utilized them to reinstate my CFIs, and had a lot of fun doing it.

The FARs state that to reinstate your instructor certificate you only need to pass one practical test and all of the ratings are reinstated. If you were to add-on a brand new rating to your instructor certificate, the old one would be renewed as well.

If you are prepared when you walk into a place like CFI-CARE it shouldn’t more than a couple days to pass and reinstate your instructor certificate.
