What is loss of directional control? I see a major cause of accidents listed as a loss of directional control by the FAA

    Usually, but not elusively, associated with takeoff and landing accidents, it just means the airplane isn’t going in the direction you want it to. As examples:

    • Pilot does a bad job landing with a crosswind and the airplane skids off the side of the runway.
    • Right main tire blows during breaking and the airplane loops.
    • Pilot fails to compensate for takeoff power and the airplane goes left instead of straight ahead.

    Pretty much plain English.
