Expired Medical

My medical is going to expire on the 24 of April 2019 and I have an appointment to see a FAA examiner but it’s not until the 30 of April 2019. What happens if I continue my flight lessons with an expired medical? Can I still do my flight lessons until the 30th when I renew my medical?

    Cease panic. Your medical certificate expires on the last day of the month. See 61.23(d).

    You could continue with dual instruction without a medical. The only time it would be required would be if you intended to fly solo.

    Thank you for answering. A follow up to my question, I must have a current medical when doing my checkride because that still counts as a solo?

    Yes. It doesn’t count as solo per se (other than the trip to/from the exam), but you will be PIC and therefore will need a current medical. And technically the medical you have should be good till the end of the day on the 30th, so doesn’t sound like there’s anything to worry about. Good luck!

    No. You need a current medical for the checkride because 61.23(3)(iii) says so,

    And 61.39(a)(4), although he could do Basic Med instead.
