Ground to tower frequency change

I was given direction by ground to taxi for takeoff and hold short at a runway that was not my departure runway. Once I reached the hold short I stayed with ground frequency. Was this correct or should I have switched to tower without being instructed to do so?

    I would remain on Ground until holding short of =my= departure runway unless instructed by Ground to change.

    That’s, of course, assuming it’s not an airport with a non-standard “special procedure” announced on ATIS.

    This happens at my home airport on a daily basis. You should always stay with ground until the completion of your taxi instructions. In your example, they cleared you to runway A and have you a hold short instruction fro Runway B in your taxi instructions. You should remain with ground until you reach runway A which is the extent of your taxi clearance. The ground controller is expecting you to remain with them while they coordinate with the tower controller if necessary.

    You did the correct thing.
